New Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) Certification Brings Expanded Benefit to Labs

Jul 11, 2016

The ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) is excited to announce the new Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) certification, which brings an enhanced level of professionalism for laboratory assistants and provides laboratory managers a complete offering of certification options for their laboratory staff.

Laboratory assistants, by earning MLA credentials from the ASCP Board of Certification, demonstrate their competence to carry out their responsibilities and bring a higher degree of respect for both themselves and their labs.

Long considered the "Gold Standard," ASCP BOC certification is sought out by seven times as many laboratory professionals as any other lab professional credentialing organization.

To make the new certification available to as many as possible, there are six different routes that determine applicant eligibility. These routes include those that have completed NAACLS-approved Clinical Assistant (CA) programs, individuals with military training, individuals who are currently working as laboratory assistants, and individuals who have completed formal structured laboratory assistant programs.
