ASCP is urging you to help support the reform of the Medicare Local Coverage Determination (LCD) process. We ask that you contact your Senators and request their support of S. 794, the LCD Clarification Act of 2017.
This legislation is needed to improve transparency and bolster accountability in the development of LCDs by Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs). Currently, the decision process lacks stakeholder input for coverage decisions. Without appropriate clinical input, flawed or mischaracterized coverage determinations can be harmful to patient access to quality care.
To ensure clinical expertise is properly considered, ASCP urges you to contact your Senators immediately to alert them of your concern about this issue and request their support of S. 794. By acting now, you can help laboratory professionals improve the process for developing LCDs.
