Stories from the Heart Contest Winners:
Roseann Wu, MD, MPH, FASCP, and Andrea Stone, MT(ASCP)
Roseann Wu, MD, MPH, FASCP, and Andrea Stone, MT(ASCP), were selected as winners of ASCP’s Stories from the Heart Contest held in conjunction with ASCP’s Member Week earlier this year. They both shared personal stories in the July 2017 issue of Critical Values about how they began their careers in the laboratory and how other ASCP members have supported them along the way. Get to know them below and read their winning stories.
Roseann Wu, MD, MPH, FASCP
A staff pathologist at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, Dr. Wu is also an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine. She previously completed her AP/CP residency and cytopathology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Wu has clinical and educational responsibilities in cytopathology, breast and pulmonary surgical pathology, and medical pathology. Her interests include fine-needle aspiration, organized pathology, and innovative ways to deliver pathology education. In 2016, Dr. Wu was named to ASCP’s 40 Under Forty list and was selected as a TOP FIVE honoree.

Andrea Stone, MT(ASCP)
Mrs. Stone works in the chemistry and hematology department at Ingalls Hospital, in Harvey, Ill. In addition to her time in the laboratory, she has also worked within the hospital’s IT department as an education coordinator. She is also an Adjunct Instructor for Phlebotomy and Medical Laboratory Technician students at several colleges. Mrs. Stone joined ASCP in 1989 and has been a committed member who shares her passion for the laboratory field by interacting with phlebotomy and medical laboratory technician students. She currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Educator on the NAACLS Programs Approval Review Committee (PARC).
